Tata Nano diesel launch seems nearer: A new segment car market to set up
Here is good news for the car buyers who have been eagerly waiting for its launch of diesel version of small car sensation Tata Nano. After a long wait, the test mule of Tata Nano has finally spotted testing on the Indian roads. And this time, it is not the fake smallest car carrying diesel badge, but the real test mule of the car which was spotted while waiting for its turn on a diesel filling section of fuel station. The car model was partially covered in camouflaging.
At a time, when the petrol prices are shooting upwards, the launch of Nano Diesel could well prove the next big thing in the Indian auto market. The latest test mule indicates that the company will soon be announcing the launch of this car in the country, which can be the upcoming Diwali Festive season.
The latest spy pictures show that the all new Tata wonder car with Diesel will be carrying a number of cosmetic changes along with a new diesel engine at its heart. Both the front and rear bumpers of the car appear a bit bigger as compared to its counterpart in the existing Nano petrol version, indicating that these might have designed bigger to accommodate a bigger diesel engine. The rear portion of the car was covered in the camouflaging indicating that the new smallest car diesel may come with an open-able tail gate as against the previous version.
Though the company hasn’t revealed the specification details of the car in the country, a number of details are already available including a CRDI Diesel Engine to which Tata Motors will be sourcing from Bosch and an unbelievable fuel economy of up to 40 km per liter. The 0.7L (expected) diesel engine of new Tata Nano Diesel will be delivering a peak output of up to 30 bhp and will come incorporated with a 5-speed manual transmission.
With an expected fuel tank capacity of up to 15 liters, the running cost of this diesel vehicle would be around Rs 1 per km. In the cost and mileage conscious Indian market, the entry of new Diesel version of Tata’s compressed car is likely to achieve a runaway success. The launch of Nano diesel will be further strengthening the position of this small car in the Indian market, where it will be carrying the tag of cheapest diesel run car in India. Apart from that Tata is also working on the CNG version of Nano that might be introduced by the end of the year; the same concept model had also been showcased in the Delhi Auto Expo 2012.
