Samsung M500 Review
The Samsung M500 is a decent phone that offers a very small form and packs a lot of feature, but it ultimately comes up short in a few ways. The Samsung M500 is a very thin and light weight clamshell phone that works on CDMA networks. It includes great features such as a mega pixel camera, MP3 music player, EVDO high speed data technology and a memory card slot. The Samsung M500 is generally regarded as the new and improved A900 with a smaller and lighter form. It also costs less than the A900.
One of the things that I really liked about the phone was the size and weight. I like clamshell phones, but I don’t like antenna stubs or pull out antennas, this phone has an internal antenna that has surprisingly good voice quality and reception. For those of you that like to text, the Samsung M500 uses advanced T9 technology.
Battery life was also very good and it seems that this battery holds a charge longer than the A900. The keypad is also constructed and laid out very well. I had no problems depressing the keys or navigating through the menus. The phone has a very nice quality digital camera with mega pixel resolution. The display shows off the photos nicely as well. The music player plays MP3’s along with other types of files and while not as easy to use as the IPod, was good enough for a mobile phone. I am also glad it has a memory slot so that I can update my music player when I want without necessarily using Bluetooth or EVDO. The memory card slot fits the new Micro SD Cards. These cards are very affordable and can hold up to 2 GB’s of data (possibly more in the future).
Data transfer was super fast and very smooth. The EVDO technology worked seamlessly and was easy to use.
Unfortunately, the casing of the phone feels a little flimsy and not high quality. The other problem I had was that the vibration alert wasn’t intense enough. The phone rang a few times before I noticed the vibration alert.
Pros
-Very light weight and was smaller than the A900
-Reception and voice quality exceeded my expectations
-I like the T9 technology on board for texting
-Keypad was easy to use
Cons
-Cheap exterior casing
-Needs a stronger vibration alert
Overall
The Samsung M500 Silver is a quality phone with a few minor flaws.
