The Timeline feature from Facebook have officially started last March 30 and there were mixed reactions. There were a lot of positive feedbacks but still there were others that are not so into Timeline, saying that invades privacy of users.  I think those are all natural since most people fear change.  Quite frankly, I think a lot confusion surrounds this timeline change for Facebook.

With regards to privacy issues, I think that Facebook Timeline manages to protect privacy. You really have more control as to what others would be able to see in your page. You only have to set it up and modify the settings, so that means you need to get some effort going on your end to make your profile information as secure as possible.

So you’ve got the new Facebook Timeline. What now? I suggest having some fun with “cover photo” creativity. Previously, there were 5 photos spread across your Facebook page, and now there is a single enlarged photo called a “Cover.” The cover is a great opportunity to make a statement about yourself or show off your favorite picture. The new FB profile design gives you a lovely big space at the top of your page for an image of your choosing. Now your profile photo overlaps the cover photo at the bottom left and I think there’s a wealth of potential for anyone who wants to get creative with this space. Here I will show you examples of some of the designs I have come up with and hopefully inspire you to get creative with your own cover or for your custom fb fan pages.

Speaking of Facebook Timeline covers, it is really a big photo above your profile picture  on top of your page, that is made public, meaning that anybody who visits your timeline can see it, unlike other photos with adjustable privacy settings. The distinction between profile pictures and the FB covers is the fact that the former is next to your name, making it easier for other users to recognize you, whilst the latter is at the leading of one’s timeline and is a distinctive representation of who you are. Actually, when adding a cover photo, you’re asked to pick a matchless image from your life and not an image that is to be found on another user’s timeline, or pictures with commercial objective or copyright-infringing content material.

Like any new features, this new timeline cover  was welcomed with good and positive reviews. And that is not unusual right? I personally think that Timeline is a good change for Facebook users. For several years now Facebook has been the best social community site there is. Hopefully that stays the same.  We should just have to try it . I am positive that the new timeline function will improve even better soon.
