Be Alive, Be Different
Last couple of years, Indian automobile sector has observed many phases of shifting trends, which come into existence with changing inclination of consumer. Earlier, in or around 2010, the auto market was hot with hatchbacks and small cars, whereas year 2011-12 is expected to see the rise of Utility Vehicles (UV) segment. As automakers at 2012 Delhi Expo had their major spotlight on transforming current SUV/MUV segment into a rather frequent one, apart from being an intermittent one till now. So what about the impending flavor of the season to follow, subsequent craze to fall now is ‘hatchback to sedan’ and ‘sedan to hatchback’. It all begins when carmaker introduces any of two models either hatch or sedan, company discerns its sales and success ratio and if it extracts desired results it is added a notch or gets it chopped off. This is incredibly remarkable and beneficial for both parties’ i.e. car-buyer and automaker. Because on one hand, customers can choose most of similar features in sedan as well as hatchback form, while manufacturer’s cost gets reduced as not much of re-designing is required. Let’s see what’s cooking in automakers’ mind these days for us:

The same was the case with Toyota Etios sedan and Liva models as they were introduced within a gap 6-7 months in the country. Nevertheless, it took years for Skoda Fabia to get transformed into Skoda Rapid.
Ford Fiesta
Ford Fiesta mileage is a notable. The all-new Fiesta was launched last year with its new design language and lately an Automatic Transmission (AT) mechanism was added to it, which made it one of the’ best packaged’ sedans available in India. Next is what? Its Fiesta’s new avatar in shape of hatchback soon. Internationally available with 1.6L motor, it outsells sedan version as it carries all elements of sedan in its compact form. In India, it is expected to invade with its expected smaller 1.4L engine after amid 2012 in order to bang with Chevrolet Sail hatchback. On the same pattern, Maruti Swift and Maruti Dzire are ruling their respective segments, other noteworthy followers comprise of Volkswagen Vento and Polo siblings.
