Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 Review
The Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 was designed as the replacement phone for the aging Samsung T719 as a lower end phone that is perfect for the average user but still offers enough features to find a home in the corporate environment. However, unlike the older model, the new Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is a slider design instead of a clamshell for a better look and some extra features which a clamshell simply cannot take advantage of.
Like more and more of Samsung’s cellular devices, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is a quad band GSM phone so it can be used around the world simply by swapping the SIM card with one from a local cellular network provider. However, despite being quad band for global roaming, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 does not feature any 3G support for high-speed data transfers. Instead, it relies only on the older GPRS or EDGE networks for slow speed data transfers. While not a problem for most users, for a phone that prides itself on being rather multimedia friendly, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 simply cannot stream content as well as some other phones on the market.
The Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is one of the smallest and lightest phones currently on the market. It measures in at approximately four inches by two inches by half an inch and weighs only 80 grams. This is the kind of phone you can put anywhere and just forget about. Despite its small size, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 features a decent battery capable of five hours of talk time and two hundred hours of standby time on a full charge. Not the best by any means, but good enough for the quality of phone you are purchasing.
As far as other features go, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 has a good mixture that should satisfy any average user. There is a 176 pixel by 220 pixel screen capable of displaying 262 thousand colors, a 1.3 Megapixel camera with four times digital zoom, a video and audio player, expandable memory via microSD, Bluetooth support, and a SureType QWERTY keyboard. While not a full keyboard, it is much more useful than using a standard keypad to text message or send work related emails.
Pros
-SureType QWERTY keyboard
-Lengthy battery life
-Small and light
Cons
-Poor camera quality
-No 3G support
Overall
The Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is a great phone that really doesn’t fit into one given niche. If you need a phone for the office, this is not it. If you want a phone that has some awesome features, this isn’t what you need. But, if you are looking for a device that can fit both categories fairly well, the Samsung Blast-SGH-T729 is your device.
