Whiteboards – Penny Foolish!
It’s coming close to that time of the year when schools start to think about stretching their already tight budgets to refurbish a classroom or two. Schools do require maintenance regardless of how tight the budget is.
Year after year we receive tens of inquiries about whiteboards. We like to think of ourselves as whiteboard experts. Particularly whiteboards for schools and colleges. In other words, whiteboards that receive a lot of traffic.
With Educational budgets do tight in this country, where do you draw the line between quality and price? Cheap whiteboards have become very affordable, but there is of course a reason for this. Cheap dry wipe boards do not last.
So let’s do the maths to prove my theory that buying cheaper boards for a school or college is a little fool hardy. Schools and colleges will generally require the big whiteboards, 2.4 metres x 1.2 metres.
There are two types of materials. The cheaper material is made from melamine and the more expensive made from enamel. The cheap whiteboards at this size cost about €100 and the enamel about €300. This is obviously a massive difference and understandably people are drawn to the cheaper boards.
From experience, I can categorically say, with high traffic, the cheaper board will become virtually unusable within 3 years. The more expensive whiteboard will maintain its bright white surface and last in excess of 25 years.
Without calculating for inflation and presuming you would have to change the cheaper whiteboards every 3 years at least, in the long run you will save at least €500 by going for the enamel whiteboards.
Do the maths! Even with tight budgets I would really encourage you to buy quality whiteboards when undertaking refurbishments this summer.
