Buying tickets to sold out events
It can be a real upset to find that tickets to an event you want to see have sold out. Many of us have a lot of different musicians, actors, directors, stories and comedians we follow. If you were to list bands whose albums you are often on the lookout for, then chances are that this would make quite a large list that would take a while to go through.
This then means that even though we might be a huge fan of an artist, we can’t necessarily stay up to date with everything they do. This is what leads to that horrible sinking feeling and that painful situation. You happen to mention to someone in passing what a big fan of ELO (let’s say) you are, only for them to then tell you that there is a concert local to you that week. Maybe you didn’t know they were still touring (they’re called ‘The Orchestra’ now actually) or maybe you just missed that they were coming to your area, but suddenly you rush back and only then do you find out that all he tickets are sold out (as they would be).
In this situation then you are left now in a worse position than you were before you knew they were playing. You now know they’re putting on a concert you really want to see – but you can’t go. Or can you?
Getting tickets last minute is almost always possible – if you know where to look and you know how to go about it. However it’s very important that you are careful when you do this because you open yourself up to potential scams and troubles.
The best way to get tickets last minute for sold out events is to look for sites that specialize in that. There are many websites online that work to allow you to trade in your tickets to sold out events for other people’s or alternatively to sell them. If they have ended falling ill, or accidentally double booking, then they will be looking to get rid of their tickets – and with so many people going to each event there is almost always going to be at least one or two people doing this.
It’s a good idea too to make sure you look regularly on these sites and check back every so often in the build up to your event. Just because the tickets you want aren’t on there now doesn’t mean they never will be.
There are also other options and some other avenues to go down if this doesn’t work. For instance you might decide to try and buy the used tickets from eBay. This is a method that can work just fine, but unfortunately it also means you don’t know what you’re getting and in some cases you can be duped by someone selling a dud ticket. Look carefully at the seller ratings and the nature of the outfit.
The last option is to look for ticket touts on the day. This method might work but is certainly a gamble and is in many cases illegal. Remember that wherever you get your tickets from you need to check the position of the seats online.
There are becoming safer ways to purchase sold out concert tickets. My girlfriend was able to buy lady gaga tickets after they were quickly sold out in Australia from a ticket exchange.
