Many of these popular attractions are found in the capital city of Tokyo. One of these is the Imperial Palace, which is where the Emperor of Japan currently resides. It is also home to the country’s administration offices and a museum.
Also on the palace grounds are:
• The original location of the Edo Castle, which was gradually destroyed to make room for the newer and modern concrete structure;
• Shogun’s Fukiage Garden, which is where many of our modern Japanese gardens get their designs.
• Three Palace Statuaries, which are historic and significant artefacts that are used in coronations and weddings;
• Imperial Regalia of Japan, which are rumoured to be housed here. These artefacts represent the three virtues, valour, honour, and benevolence.
Another thing to visit in the expansive city of Tokyo is the Tokyo Tower. This is a 3,325 metre tower that is similar to Paris’ Eiffel Tower in style, but home to much of Japan’s communications. Visitors to the city can also travel up to the observation area and get a bird’s eye view of the city and surrounding countryside.
Not only is Tokyo a perfect destination for your tour in Japan, but also Osaka has many things to see and do. One of these is the Osaka Castle, now on the site of an old temple and was the largest castle in Japan at the time of its construction. It was later destroyed, rebuilt in the early 1600s, and burned down again in the mid 1660s. The one that stands on the location now was built in 1931 and was restored in the late 1990s. It is now modern and home to a museum. The grounds also include a garden that plays host to breathtaking cherry blossoms during the month of April. Osaka is also home of the Shitennoji Temple, Japan’s oldest temple. This is where Buddhism was introduced to the country and in its golden hall you can see the shrine to Prince Shotoku.
Other places you should visit on your holiday to Japan are the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki where the atomic bombs were demonstrated by the United States, ending World War II. Both cities have peace parks and museums dedicated to the event and those who were lost in those devastating moments.
Any visit to enchanting Japan will leave you in awe of the beauty around you and it will be a holiday to remember.
