Cayman Airways adds twice weekly direct flights to Panama

Cayman Airways has long been promising a direct air route to Panama and at the start of a four-day trade mission to the country, Premier McKeeva Bush announced that twice weekly direct flights to Panama will start on 31 May of this year, reports experts in land investments in Cayman Islands Crown World (http://www.crownworld.com). The route is set to further encourage tourism, trade and commerce between the Islands and South America.

Premier Bush announced the planned flight additions at the Cayman Night in Panama reception at the InterContinental Mirimar Hotel in Panama City on Monday 19th March. The reception signalled the start of the trade mission to Panama, the latest in a series of trade missions in the southernmost Central American country organised by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce over the last six years. Chamber of Commerce President David Kirkaldy, speaking at the reception, explained the goals behind the first trade mission: “The chamber’s objective then was to open the door of opportunity between our two countries…We wanted to introduce local representatives from the public and private sectors who would be motivated to work together to develop relationships. Most importantly, we wanted to create a level of trust that would encourage businesses in both of our countries to establish strong partnerships that would lead to a robust level of trade and investment.”

Noting that these goals had already been met, he remarked, “Since the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce started our visits six years ago, many millions of trade in goods and services has transpired…An impressive level of international financial business is being transacted between our countries as more attorneys, bankers, accountants and hedge fund managers discover the advantages of working together”. As for the future relationship between Panama and the Cayman Islands, Kirkaldy commented, “I am certain there are other areas on which we can work together to improve business, including the tourism, investment and development sectors…Both Panama and the Cayman Islands are exceptional tourism destinations and there are lessons that we can share with each other to improve our product offerings so that more tourists may enjoy what our countries have to offer.”

The additional direct air routes to Panama will run through until November every year, in order to maximise the potential air traffic from South American cities such as Sao Paulo in the winter months, as Premier Bush put it: “to facilitate and support existing South American leisure travel patterns.” Premier Bush went on to say, “This venture that we have embarked on will not only further strengthen the mutually beneficial business and leisure interests that we share in common, but I am confident it will continue to open the door to bigger and better opportunities for us all – Caymanian businesses, Panamanian businesses and international businesses that ply between the two countries.”

Land investments in Cayman Islands can only benefit from this direct route to Panama as it is further evidence of the Cayman Islands’ strategic plan to harness the South American market both in terms of tourism and international business.
