Sanyo Katana-II Review
The Sanyo Katana-II is the perfect example of a phone that looks great, is easy to use, but lacks all of the features that a phone of this design should include. This, however, places the Sanyo Katana-II into a great niche that is relatively unexplored by most cell phone manufacturers. Many companies make attractive phones for high tech junkies and ugly phones for the average person – but the Sanyo Katana-II is an attractive phone for the average person.
As a CDMA phone, purchasing the Sanyo Katana-II means that you are stuck in America with it. The phone will not work in other parts of the world, so it is essentially an America bound phone. While many of the CDMA phones, however, include 3G support, the Sanyo Katana-II lacks any kind of high speed data transfer ability, so prepare to be stuck on the older and slower CDMA2000 data transfer network.
Despite its somewhat bulky look, the Sanyo Katana-II is a fairly small device. It measures in at approximately three and a half inches by two inches by half an inch and weighs only 88 grams. This is a tiny device, making it perfect for anyone to carry around with them at all times. Battery life on this small phone, however, is tragically bad, allowing for only three and a half hours of talk time on a full charge.
As long as you do not expect too much from this phone’s features, you won’t be disappointed. The Sanyo Katana-II includes a large 240 pixel by 320 pixel, 65 thousand color LCD screen on the inside of the device and an 80 pixel by 80 pixel color LCD screen on the exterior. There is also a 0.3 Megapixel digital camera with twelve times digital zoom and a self timer. Other features on the Sanyo Katana-II include Bluetooth 2.0 support, a speakerphone, a number of voice-activated controls, and GPS support.
Pros
-Small and stylish
-Easy to read LCD screen
Cons
-Not too many features
-Terrible battery life
-No 3G support
Overall
The Sanyo Katana-II is a great phone for those looking for a device without all of the cumbersome features. While not great by any means, the Sanyo Katana-II is cheap (or free in some cases). All in all, check out the Sanyo Katana-II but be sure to look at the competition too.
