Dealing with an auto accident and getting a courtesy car
Having been involved in an auto accident is bad enough, but when you have to fight for a courtesy car, it can all get a bit too much to cope with alone.
I was on my way home from work last Friday, having taken some flexi time back from work, I was able to miss the rush hour traffic and hopefully slip into a well-deserved weekend break with my bottle of red wine and my new Mills and Boon romance novel. I had also pre-purchased some sweets and nibbles and was planning to turn off my mobile and house phone, to enjoy total isolation from the outside world. The batteries will also be removed from the doorbell for every eventuality.
I decide to take a short cut through a small estate that I would not normally consider doing during my normal rush hour dash home, as to many children are playing and returning home from school. As I am early they are all tucked up behind their school desks. I approached an intersection that indicated I had the right of way, but I looked anyway just to air on the side of caution. I did not even see the guy coming and as he attempted to take the junction far too fast, he slid and ripped of the entire side of my car. All the air bags went off and I was surrounded in white dust and a horrid smelling gas.
After having regained my senses, I was able to climb out of the passenger door only to find the guy attempting to drive away. Lucky for me, he was stopped by two guys who witnessed everything. The police arrived and it soon became apparent he had been drinking and subsequently taken away in handcuffs. After approximately two and a half hours, the police issued me with a statement acknowledging I was not to blame. This was to aid me in the insurance claim and allow me the luxury of a courtesy car (Lånebil til en fordelagtig pris is the Danish term), at the other driver’s insurance company’s expense.
So much for a lazy weekend, I spent the entire weekend and the Monday morning arguing about a courtesy car with the auto assistance company (or Få hurtig auto hjælp as we call them in Denmark), and who is to pay. I read my insurance agreement, even the smallest of print and it clearly says I am entitled to a courtesy car even, if the auto accident is my fault. After all I pay a large premium for fully comprehensive insurance, so I want my money’s worth.
They eventually agreed to send a courtesy car to my home address and agreed to send the bill to the guy who had now been remanded in custody for drunk driving and driving whilst banned for twelve months. It appears he has done this a number of times and this one should see him behind bars. My courtesy car was delivered and I was surprised to see it
