Sanyo Katana-LX Review

The Sanyo Katana-LX is the shiniest Sanyo phone to date. It is a basic flip phone that has a mirrored front surface which makes it one of the more stylish cell phones on the market. While the mirrored surface is a draw to some, to others it is a drawback.

Its basic dimensions are 3.9 by 1.9 by .7 (HWD, respectively). This makes it a thicker phone by comparison to others in its classification. The 2 inch inside screen has a resolution of 128 by 160 mega pixels. Not the greatest in the world, but not the worst either. One would perhaps expect more from such a shiny, flashy phone. For all the flash, there is little to get excited about on the inside.

Like other Sanyo phones, the Sanyo Katana-LX features excellent sound quality. Reception is good and the earpiece and speakerphone are loud. The handset has a 2.5mm headphone jack as well as a microUSB port, making it compatible with a large number of after market accessories.

The Sanyo Katana-LX has a decent battery talk time of 4.8 hours. It has a very strong vibrate feature and it can both vibrate and ring at the same time. It also provides the option to purchase more ring tones. It has 32 built in ring tones.

The keypad for the Sanyo Katana-LX is made up of small, but well placed keys, making it fairly easy to navigate. It also comes loaded with several demo games, such as The Sims2. It has GPS capabilities, but it runs pretty slow. It also comes with a camera, but with low resolution of 0.3 megapixels.

Pros

-Attractive phone
-Great reception
-Loud earpiece and speakerphone

Cons

-Surface screen cannot be seen in sunlight
-Not multimedia friendly – no MP3 support and low-resolution camera

Overall

The Sanyo Katana-LX is an okay phone. It comes cheap, at around $50 with a contract. That being said, one can get much more bang for his/her buck with some of the other phones offered by Sanyo for the same price. The Sanyo Katana-LX is a solid voice phone, but offers no bells and whistles. Overall, it is an average phone.
