Sony Ericsson Z550a Review
The Sony Ericsson z550a is a simple phone for people who want an attractive device without a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles. It is designed for people who have good taste in style, but are overwhelmed by a lot of fancy gadgets that they will never use. And the Sony Ericsson z550a fills that niche with ease.
A quad band GSM phone that is capable of global roaming, the Sony Ericsson z550a, like most clamshell designed Sony Ericsson phones, has no 3G support. Data can still be transmitted via the older, and slower, GPRS network anywhere in the world – but don’t expect any high speeds from the Sony Ericsson z550a.
The size and weight of the Sony Ericsson z550a are impressively low. The phone measures in at approximately three and a half inches by two inches by one inch and weighs only 93 grams.
As is the case with the majority of Sony Ericsson phones, the Sony Ericsson z550a features a massive amount of battery life. Clocking in at five and a half hours of talk time and three hundred and twenty hours of standby time, its battery lasts longer than a large majority of other clamshell devices currently on the market.
The digital camera and screen on the Sony Ericsson z550a are decent, but nothing spectacular. Screen size is 176 pixels by 220 pixels that displays two hundred and sixty two thousand colors while the camera is 1.3 Megapixels and allows for four times digital zoom, a number of special effects, and a self timer.
Other features on the simplistic Sony Ericsson z550a include a music and video player, expandable memory via Sony’s Memory Stick Micro format, Bluetooth 2.0 support, a number of voice activated commands, and more.
Pros
-Attractive design for a lower-mid range phone
-Easy for the average user
-Small and light
Cons
-No 3G support
-Sony’s expensive Memory Stick is required for expandable memory
Overall
The Sony Ericsson z550a is a good phone if you can find it for a low price. It is certainly not worth more than thirty dollars (with a contract), and you should be able to find it somewhere for free. At anything more than thirty dollars, the Sony Ericsson z550a is not recommended, as there are better phones out there for lower prices.
This is the “right hand” of both the professional and the amateur lineman. Basically, it is a customized portable telephone which is designed to be hooked onto raw cable terminals in the field and used to monitor the line, talk, or dial out.
