Sasaram – Famous Stone Chips and Stone mining industries

Sasaram is a famous tourist place owing to its historical importance. The name ‘Sasaram’ is conventionally believed to be arisen from the names of the legendary King Kartavirya Sahasrarjuna and sage Parashurama (Sahasrarjuna-pura or Sahsaram). Sasaram is popular for the Samrat Ashoka Pillar which is in a cave of Kaimur hill.

Sasaram town has various sightseeing to explore. The most famous ones include Rohtasgarh Fort, tomb of Sher Shah Suri, temple of Maa Tara Chandi, Kaimur Hills, Manjhar Kund and Dhua Kund, Ashokan Inscription and rock-cut Cave, Chaurasan Mandir, tomb of Hasan Khan Sur, Tomb of Chandan Shaheed and Deo Markandeya.

The tomb of Sher Shah Suri, also considered as Sher Shah Mausoleum is located in the middle of a man-made lake of Sasaram. The highlights of the tomb excludes its tall arches and ancient inscriptions. The Rohtasgarh Fort is spread over a huge area on the plateau of Sasaram. This fort was used as a treasure keeper as well as a safety site for the families of Shah Jahan, Mir Qasim, Maan Singh and Sher Shah Suri.

The tomb of Chandan Shaheed and temple of Maa Tara Chandi are both located on the Chandan Shaheed Hill. The Maa Tara Chandi temple is renowned for the idol of Tara-Chandi, while tomb of Chandan Shaheed is an old mosque that belongs to the reign of Jehangir. Along with Maa Tara Chandi temple, the Chaurasan Mandir is another famous temple of Sasaram and is devoted to Lord Shiva. There is also a Ganesh temple located around.

The Kaimur Hills also render an access to many other attractions of Sasaram like Parvati temple, Gupta Mahadev temple, tomb of Malik Wishal Khan, ancient caves and Bhaluni Dam. Dhua Kund and Manjhar Kund are two waterfalls of this town that have the capacity of yielding large amount of electricity.

The other attractions are tomb of Samrat Ashok Pillar, Hasan Khan Sur, Sukha Rauza and Ashokan Inscription and Rock-cut caves along with Diwan-E-Aam and Diwan-E-Khas. It also has a ‘baulia’, which used to be the bathing area of the kings who lived in the ancient time holiday package .

The village of Deo Markandeya provides an access to the famous temples of Lord Vishnu and Sun God, while the village of Dehri, situated at 17 km from Sasaram is home to several lesser known Muslim tombs tour packages . Sasaram is also the birthplace of Haji Begum, Jhansi ki Rani of Bihar, who fought against the British. Sasaram is located around 110 km from Varanasi, 105 km from BodhGaya and 148 km from Patna. Besides its history, Sasaram is also famous for its quality stone chips and stone mining industry.

The nearest airport to reach Sasaram is Patna which is well connected to major cities in India. Sasaram can also be reached by train as several trains ply from various near cities .
