What is in Second and Third Trimester of Pregnancy?
According to many mums, there are several perks of pregnancy, most of which occur in the second trimester and third trimester. Of course not all women will enjoy all of these perks and some will be reading this and shaking their heads in disbelief. But many pregnant women have enjoyed the following:
Lustrous hair
Normally women lose 50 to 100 hairs a day, but during pregnancy hormones prolong their growing cycle. As a result, fewer hairs fall out and there is an increase in the percentage of hairs that are growing.
Many women notice that starting in the second trimester their hair is thicker and more lustrous than before and that they can grow it much longer than they could before being pregnant.
Fabulous nails
Nails, like hair, can change noticeably during pregnancy. Extra hormones can make them grow faster and become stronger and by the third trimester many mums-to-be are showing a set of talons to be proud of. However like the changes in hair, nail changes aren’t permanent. Boob boost Bigger boobs is one of the first signs of pregnancy and if you’ve always longed for more up top then this is a definite perk! Breasts usually become swollen and enlarged in the first trimester because of increased levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Some women find their breasts continue to grow throughout the second trimester and even third trimester and they have to replace their bras several times over the course of a pregnancy.
Sexy mama
A change in hormone levels can cause a pregnant woman’s hormones to soar which can give an unexpected boost to a couple’s love life. Also, many women feel fewer body insecurities and hang-ups when they are pregnant which can be very liberating in the bedroom. A pregnant woman can, quite rightly, feel proud of her voluptuous breasts and round belly. For couples who have been making love for months according to a schedule with ovulation top of their agenda, sex during pregnancy can once again be purely for pleasure and not just for making a baby!
Couples bonding
Couples who are in an already healthy, happy relationship, can find the anticipation of having a baby, choosing names, preparing the nursery, or marvelling at the ultrasound can bring them even closer together. Many partners become more loving and helpful giving the mum-to-be foot or back massages, helping out more around the home or simply “being more attentive.
A clean sweep
A clean house is possibly more a side effect than a perk of pregnancy. Many pregnant women experience the nesting instinct, a powerful urge to prepare their home for the baby by cleaning and decorating some time during the third trimester. Others find they get surges of energy starting in the second trimester and they get great satisfaction and pleasure tackling the kitchen cupboards or closets they haven’t had time to do before. Just be careful not to overdo it.
