Hindupur – Easy ways to reach Hindupur
Hindupur is the second largest town of Anantpur district, in the state of Karnataka. Located on the banks of Penner River, this town has an average elevation of 621 m. It is situated at a distance of 14 km from Lepakshi and about 100 km away from the state capital of Bengaluru. Hindupur, located in the Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh, is famous for tourist sites like the Surappakunta Waterfalls, Gayatri temple in Laxmipuram and Sri Shirdi Sai temple. The town is also popular for the Jain temple dedicated to Bhagvan Parshvanath. Another important attraction is the Lepakshi town, situated near Hindupur, and known for the Lord Veerabhadra temple. This temple was built during the Vijayanagar period and is situated on Kurmasaila, a rocky hill.
More than 50 masjids are housed within Hindupur as the town is dominated by Muslim population. However, the town has gained prominence as a busy business centre and is particularly famous for its jewellery and gold merchants.
The town is popular for places like the Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Kota, Guddam Ranganatha Swamy temple, Peta Venkataramana temple and Sugur Anjaneya Swamy temple. The Sree Veerabramhendra Swamy temple, Venkateswara Swamy temple in the main bazaar, Kolhapur Mahalaxmi temple and Kanyaka Parameswari temple are also popular.
The Sugooru Hanuman temple, 600 years old shrine built by Vasyaraya, and the annual Theru Festival are some of the important attractions of Hindupur. The nearby villages, namely Sevamandir, Sadlapalli, Basavanapalli and Sugur that are known for beautiful ancient temples can also be visited.
Hindupur is a busy business center. It has good infrastructure and transportation is easy. There are a few hotels and lodges that are available in Hindupur and tourism is developing.
There is a small village near the town called Lepakshi and there are many buildings that are an example of the Vijayanagar style of architecture. This is a good place to visit for architecture buffs and those who are interested in monuments.

The nearest airport is located at Bangalore at a distance of 70 km from the town. The Devanahalli Airport has many international domestic flights that arrive frequently. For those who are arriving by air this is the best option . Hindupur Railway Station is located in the South Western Zone and the Rajdhani express passes through the town of Hindupur. Hindupur is also connected with the rest of the State and a few trains pass through Hindupur. Buses are also available from the other parts of the State and they are a cheaper option.
