Sony Ericsson K850i Review
Is it a phone or is it a camera? That’s what many people ask when they first see the Sony Ericsson K850i, one of the newest in the long line of Cyber-Shot branded cell phones from Sony Ericsson. The Sony Ericsson K850i is a highly impressive device that is as easy to use as it is fashionable, but still manages to give tech junkies enough gadgets and high-end features to make them drool.
Unlike many other phones in the Sony Ericsson line which are designed specifically for the Asian or European market, the Sony Ericsson K850i is a quad band GSM phone that can be used anywhere in the world. It also features 3G support on a variety of frequencies, so the 3G features can also be used in nearly any place throughout the globe for high speed data transfers and Internet access.
Like so many other candy bar style Sony Ericsson phones, the Sony Ericsson K850i is a fairly small device with a massive amount of battery power. Measuring in at four inches by two inches by half an inch and 118 grams, the Sony Ericsson K850i is one of those electronic devices that you stick in your pocket or purse and quickly forget about. It’s that small. However, while most small phones have shoddy battery life, the Sony Ericsson K850i manages to pull out nine hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby time. If you’re going on a long trip through areas with sporadic electricity, a Sony Ericsson phone is what you want to bring along with you.
Perhaps the only downside of the Sony Ericsson K850i is that its digital camera far surpasses the screen that Sony Ericsson chose to include on their phone. The screen, while certainly not small (240 pixels by 320 pixels), is only capable of displaying 262 thousand colors. The Cyber-Shot camera built into the Sony Ericsson K850i, however, is a 5 Megapixel beast with a sixteen times digital zoom, xenon flash, and auto focus.
Other features on the Sony Ericsson K850i include a secondary camera for video calling, a music and video player, expandable memory that can make use of either microSD memory or Sony’s own Memory Stick flash memory, Bluetooth, and a speakerphone.
Pros
-One of the best digital cameras on any phone
-Attractive design (especially in blue and silver)
-Secondary camera
-3G support
-Support for microSD or Memory Stick
Cons
-Screen quality not as good as Nokia’s N95
Overall
Nokia needs to watch out because the Sony Ericsson K850i is one impressive device that is quickly entering into a position to dominate the high-end market. As the iPhone buzz continues to wear down, the Sony Ericsson K850i is the phone everyone will soon be talking about.
