Maruti Ertiga diesel version expected to be more popular than the petrol version
India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India is riding high on success these days with the success of its recently launched MPV Maruti Ertiga. Maruti which was till now absent from the MPV segment not just forayed into the MPV segment, but it also inducted a compact MPV segment in India. In fact, the company now eyes to introduce new segments in India in the coming years. Maruti’s Grand Vitara and Gypsy could not create any magic in the Indian auto market and their sales kept on fading away slowly. With Ertiga, Maruti is back with a bang in the auto industry.
Maruti Ertiga is based on the new Maruti Swift platform and just like the Maruti Swift diesel version, Maruti Ertiga diesel is also expected to sell in good numbers. Ertiga’s diesel variant is powered with a 1.3 liter Fiat sourced turbo diesel engine, interestingly this engine also powers Maruti SX4 diesel sedan. Maruti Ertiga diesel comes in three variants namely, LDi,VDi and ZDi. Maruti Ertiga diesel review reveals that the diesel version is a powerful car which comes loaded with class leading features and other safety features like ABS, EBD etc.
The newly launched MPV will also be exported to overseas market like Indonesia and the export will begin in the end of May. The MPV will be shipped as a completely knocked down unit to Indonesia and will be assembled locally there. The company is expecting the diesel version to sell substantially more than the petrol version; around 80% of the bookings are expected to come from the diesel version. Production of Maruti’s best selling hatchback, new Swift has been increased from 12,000 units to 20,000 per month, this will help reducing the waiting period of the of the hatchback. As of now the waiting period of the hatchback is 6.5 months which is expected to come down to 4.5 months.
Speculations were rife that Maruti was pondering to roll out the CNG version of Ertiga in India soon, but putting all speculations to rest, one of the company officials confirmed that the company as such has no plans. Few of Maruti’s hatchbacks like Maruti Wagon R etc are available inthe CNG variant, the Maruti official said that there is still no clarity on government’s stand on the CNG stations therefore it would not be a viable time to contemplate on the CNG version of Ertiga.
Maruti Ertiga’s rivals Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo are priced a notch higher than Ertiga at Rs 8.70 (ex-showroom price) and Rs 7.30 lakh (ex-showroom price) respectively. In January Toyota launched the revamped version of Innova with a sliced price. Mahindra and Mahindra also launched the upgraded version of Xylo MPV in India, or it could be said that both the companies were aware that Maruti is going to price Ertiga competitively which it did and to sustain the competition, both the companies offered a refreshed version of both Innova and Xylo. Innova as of now still stands intact in the MPV segment,it would take few months to determine of Ertiga’s launch could topple Innova’s reign in the MPV segment.
