The Top Three Technologies That Cause the Most Car Accidents

Don’t get us wrong, we think technology is a wonderful thing. Technological advances are one of the reasons for the ease and comfort we are able to enjoy today. However, it cannot be denied that technology also comes with its share of disadvantages. In particular, often while driving, people become so distracted by tinkering with their different gadgets, that they lose sight of what they’re doing and then accidently create car accidents.

Of course, we’re all too familiar with the havoc car accidents bring into our lives. Not only do they spike up our previously low insurance rates, but they also create a whole lot of added stress to our lives and additional bills.

Have you ever wondered what specific gadgets are responsible for causing most of the accidents on the road? We’ve always been curious about the matter, which is why we decided to conduct our own research on the topic. Today, we present to you the top 3 technologies we found to be the cause of most car accidents.

  1. Your mobile phone- amongst all kinds of technology, the mobile phone is the guiltiest party for causing the most car accidents, and perhaps that is no surprise to most. Distraction by mobile phone is so extensive that it has now become the number one overall reason for car and motor accidents. Yes, in case you are curious, the mobile out ranks drunk driving, speeding and all that. Too many drivers these days are under the false impression that they can do two things at once- either talk on the phone and drive, or text and drive. And then, the inevitable happens. Concentration is no longer fully on the road, and reflexes are not as quick to react. When something suddenly occurs unexpectedly, an accident usually follows. We would also like to mention that when your car insurance company catches you talking on the phone, your car insurance quotes are sure to spike up!
  2. The radio/ cd player/ mp3 player- A lot of drivers are huge sticklers when it comes to the music that they listen to on the road. Most cannot stand to hear ads, or even bad songs. When people do encounter these annoyances, an automatic reflex is to focus on the radio and attempt to find another station, another track, or just another thing. Again, focus on the road is temporarily lost, or at the very least, lessened. And this is exactly the moment when distracted drivers are most likely to get into an accident.
  3. The GPS- who knew that a device that is supposed to make maneuvering the road a whole lot easier can be the cause of so many accidents? Certainly not us! However, it has been found that having a GPS in the car may cause distraction. Similar to distraction by way of the mobile phone and radio, accidents often occur when drivers start fiddling with their GPS. Because people have to press so many buttons, they lose all sight of the road. Other problem that leads to accidents is when your GPS suddenly announces a turn. If you’re not paying full attention, you realize the turn too late, and attempt to head in the right direction by making sudden swerves or turns. Of course sudden movements like these will make accidents that much more likely.

So, a word of advice for those who have these gadgets in their cars- BE CAREFUL! Always pay attention to the road and do not allow yourself to become distracted! You don’t want an accident to happen to you!
