Medical care in the Dominican Republic is extremely limited, with only a few clinics available for foreigners. Outside of the main cities it is rare to see any kind of medical facilities. Foreigners who are struck with serious illnesses or injuries must leave and return to their home countries to receive care.
Living as an expat Dominican Republic is described as extremely affordable. The currency found in the Dominican Republic is the pesos. Apartments in the major cities are about six to seven thousand pesos and fifty percent more for a furnished place with all amenities. Many expats who move here find that hiring a maid to help around the house is an excellent idea, as maids are extremely cheap here. Food is cheap in grocery stores, but restaurants can be somewhat expensive.
There are no restrictions for foreigners who wish to purchase property in the Dominican Republic; however, you will still want to hire a real estate attorney to protect your interests. Most properties available in the Dominican Republic are relatively cheap; however there are some high priced estates and condos in certain high class locations. If you are on a budget, there are plenty of homes that are much cheaper than those found in the United States or other countries. This country is reviewed as being a great location to relocate to. It has a lot to offer and low prices to make your income stretch further. The people are friendly and this country retains wholesome values. You will still miss home at times for sure, but the people and the hospitality of this country will make you feel as if home if near.
