Parkouring equipment is the latest addition to Finnish Lappset’s manufacturing slate
One clear signal of the current popularity of parkour (in Finnish: parkour) is that the leading manufacturer of playground equipment worldwide, the Finnish company Lappset has produced a new product line of modular parkour products designed together with parkour professionals. In co-operation with Parkour Academy, they are bringing the joy of parkour to everyone.
Parkour is a young sport in a global sense. It challenges people of both sexes and all ages to test their bodies to the limit. The discipline first saw the daylight in France in the 1980s when a couple of youths interested in jumping, tricks and balancing started to try out and develop the basic movements using the urban environment as their playground.
And playgrounds of course, have been the expertise of Lappset since the very beginning of the company, some 40 years ago. The Rovaniemi based company is now one the global leaders in playground equipment as well as outdoor gym and senior fitness equipments. The company has grown from a one-man band to an international group with subsidiaries in five different countries. Over 70% of the group’s turnover comes from overseas and exports span more than 40 countries.
The original vision of Lappset’s founding father – developing all-round environmentally sustainable design methods for play equipment and playgrounds – has proven to be a wise idea, and has advanced rapidly over time. Bringing parkour specifically designed and durable parkour equipment fits this vision like a glove.
Lappset’s current line of parkour equipment consists of precision balls, gibbonswings, tic-tac cubes, vault rails, beams, spider cages and various kinds of walls – all modular and available in different colors, which helps the planner of the parkour course create the suitable parkouring area with ease and lot of flexibility.
The fact that all equipment is designed together with parkour professionals who know all the tricks and also the possible pitfalls of their sport, gives Lappset’s equipment range a clear advantage. For example, an obstacle wall for an 8-year-old has to be different size than for an adult. Working around this kind of insights from the parkour professionals, the Lappset designers have created the product line, which features as many possible functions for a single equipment and thus gives fantastic flexibility for creating courses for various levels of parkourists.
