Youth Ministry Games
Youth ministry games are a great way to build connections with your students. Youth ministry games utilized within your youth ministry are also a very good excuse to get outside and enjoy God’s great landscape.
A simple game of basketball or volleyball can be a team building experience which brings your students closer together. If you have students who may be unfamiliar with each other, playing youth ministry games is a great way to introduce everybody together and let everybody interact with each other. By playing simple games together your students can get a feel for each other and the personalities of the group will come to the forefront.
Youth ministry games should always be diverse and how they are presented to your youth group. Split up the games between physical activities and also mind twisters. By splitting up the activities and the youth ministry games between physical and mental you are giving everybody a chance to excel. Some of your students may be great athletes who will excel at youth ministry games which are physical in nature such as an outdoor building activity or a pickup game of basketball. But all of your students are not naturally gifted athletes, so by presenting your youth group with games and activities to play that are not focused on athletic ability, even the playing field.
When your youth ministry games are going on one of the best ways to interact with your students is to participate yourself. By interacting with your students during a game or an activity you allow for the possibility that a student can beat you at something. And trust me there are students who want nothing more than to school their youth leader and a game of basketball! Since the games they play with your youth group shouldn’t be too serious in nature, if you are on the losing team, no big deal.
Youth ministry games should also be used to break up a long class lesson or Bible study. By breaking the class up with different activities for your students to do, you are far more likely to keep everybody’s attention and keep the rate of participation up. Teens can get bored very easily, and their attention can start to wander if you are doing the same activity for an extended period of time. Introducing various youth ministry games can be a great way to get everybody interacting and excited to be part of the youth group. So if there is a lull in the class or you sense that the students are getting restless, if at all possible have them participate one of the youth ministry games that you have planned out for your class.
So introduce a little bit of fun into your youth ministry and have your students participating games and also fun activities or icebreakers at least once every meeting. Playing games doesn’t mean that you are not taking your job seriously; it means that you are utilizing various tools to bring your youth group closer together. Plan out a few youth ministry games that you think your students will be interested in, and have a blast!
