Hyundai i10 diesel in the making
After government’s move to encourage the diesel car sales, car makers are looking to bring more and more diesel cars in India and bestow the already present petrol cars with diesel engines. Hyundai too is considering giving a diesel heart to its high selling small car in India, Hyundai i10. Hyundai India as of now has only one diesel hatch under its portfolio which the Hyundai i20 premium hatchback. The company of late launched the new version of the hatchback which now sports much charismatic looks with a host of new features. Rumour has it that Hyundai will roll out i10 in diesel avatar once its diesel plant is operational. Hyundai last year proclaimed its plan to set up a diesel facility in India but was waiting for the government’s take on the cess levied on the diesel cars. Therefore, the company might restore its plans to set up a diesel engine facility in India.
Hyundai i10 as of now is present in petrol and LPG variants in India. The petrol version is present in nine petrol variants and two LPG variants. The petrol variants are offered in two engine options, 1.1 IRDE2 and 1.2 Kappa2. Hyundai’s LPG version commonly known as Hyundai i10 ‘blue drive’ is offered in two trim levels, and is powered with a 1.2 litre iRDE2 mill. It also comes affixed with a factory fitted LPG kit.
Hyundai i10 price begins at Rs 3.72 lakh and the highest model is tagged at Rs 6.23 lakh (ex-showroom price). The Hyundai i10 LPG price is tagged between Rs 4.16 lakh to Rs 4.30 lakh (ex-showroom price). The South Korean auto maker is also referred as the second largest auto major in India. The company has carved a niche for itself in the Indian car market and despite slow demand Hyundai managed to post 11 percent rise in sales with aplenty units sold in the month of April. Hyundai’s popular sedan Verna is selling in good numbers and has been contributing immensely towards the sales figure. Apart from Verna, other Hyundai cars like Hyundai Eon, Hyundai i20 and i10 also contributed towards the sales of the company.
Though on export front Hyundai saw little disappointment with 4.3% decline in the overall export with 19,536 units exported in April. Hyundai’s small cars like Eon, Santro, i10 and i20 managed to garner 44,891 units sale in April. While the Hyundai sedans, Verna and Accent stood at 9,579 units. The upgraded Hyundai Sonata premium sedan could clock 66 units sale in April and the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV stood at 70 units in April. As discussed earlier, the company as of now has just one hatchback in diesel variant that is Hyundai i20 and if Hyundai India comes with a diesel version of Hyundai i10 it could help the firm to enhance the sales further. Therefore Hyundai should seriously ponder over the idea and roll out Hyundai i10 diesel version soon.
