Fishing Like a Rockstar Aboard a Luxury Fishing Yacht
Longing for an ultra-luxurious day of fishing on the water, but don’t have a few million bucks to buy a Viking? You’re in luck, Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters is now offering fishing trips on a 65 foot Viking luxury sport fishing yacht.
“We are getting more and more requests for these types of boats,” says Steven Seigel, who also goes by Captain Steve, and is the co-founder of Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters. “Unless you know someone, it is very tough to find these boats for charter. They are typically privately owned by wealthy individuals who don’t need the money.”
“Boats like this appeal primarily to corporate customers looking to entertain employees or clients, but I also hear from a lot of people that are just looking for the experience of living large.”
Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters 65 foot Viking Platinum Edition yacht features top of the line accomodations. The yacht has private staterooms with flat screen TVs, a to of the line entertainment system and state of the art navigation and sonar equipment to find the fish faster. The boat has a modern galley (that’s a kitchen for you landlubbers).
“Seriously, this thing is probably nicer than your house. A lot nicer,” says Captain Steve. “You’ve heard of pimp my ride, this is more like pimp my boat. There are big flatscreens everywhere with satellite TV so you can watch the games in between fishing.”
“Although our fleet of sport fishing boats for deep sea fishing charters is more than adequate, there are times when people are looking to impress a client or a friend or a family member. These clients are looking for ‘bling’, they’re looking for a boat that shows they mean business!”
“Luxurious accommodations are typically not a priority for your ordinary charter fishing boat. Most of the fishing boats in Fort Lauderdale are mid size 40-45 foot fishing boats built in the 1970s and 1980s by Hatteras,” says Mr. Seigel. “The fishing layout on these boats is superb, and the boats do great in the ocean, but they’re sort of ‘no frills.’ The interiors are dated, you’re probably not going to find any leather.”
“The price for this level of luxury is more than you’d imagine,” says Mr. Siegel, “but, if you have to ask what the price is you probably can’t afford it.”
Mr. Siegel went on to say that the daily rate for the boat is $3,800 and includes a captain, mate, fishing tackle, and fuel for up to 20 miles of cruising. The boat can accommodate six guests and there is no additional per person fee. Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters also offers custom catering options that range from simple sandwiches all the way up to stone crabs and sushi.
Mr. Siegel declined to comment on the purchase price of the vessel, but indicated that a boat such as this costs millions of dollars. According to YachtWorld.com, a listing site for boats, a similar Viking built in 2007 is listed for $3.0 million.
“Do the math,” says Captain Steve. “Even if you can afford one of these babies, it makes a lot more sense and is a lot more cost effective to charter.”
In addition to regular day trips, these yachts are also available on a weekend and weekly basis, which makes them perfect for junkets to the Keys and the Bahamas.
