Ford India is preparing itself to launch the compact SUV, Ford EcoSport in India. The SUV which was earlier showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo recently stole the show at the Beijing Auto Exhibition too. Ford has developed a new powerplant which will be powering the Ford EcoSport SUV. This new mill is the 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder 120PS Ecoobost engine. This is the Ford’s smallest engine, it is been bestowed with not only a turbo but it also has a twin independent variable camshaft timing coupled with a direct fuel injection. Apart from the Indian car market, Ford EcoSport will also travel to Brazil, Thailand, China and to 100 more countries in the global markets. Ford EcoSport reviews reveal that the SUV will come with an array of features which include the 16-inch alloy wheels as standard and a chrome glutted grille, keyless entry, remote start and Ford’s Sync infotainment system with voice control.

Ford Ecosport will also come equipped with a host of safety features like ABS, ESP, hill assist and rear parking sensors. Ford’s plan to launch new products in India in the coming years is not hidden by the auto aficionados, along with India; Ford also has plans to launch fifteen new cars in the fastest growing auto market China by the year 2015. Ford’s vision is big as far as the Asia Pacific and African auto markets are concerned, the company contemplated to bring around 50 new vehicles in this region.

Ford EcoSport price in India is expected to around Rs 9 lakh, which is quite low as compared to the other SUVs present in India. Ford is likely to get a tough competition with other highly anticipated SUVs like the Renault Duster which will make its debut around the festive season of Diwali. Another SUV which is yet to be launched and is anticipated to be a tough competition for the Ford EcoSport is the Maruti XA Alpha SUV which is under development stage and will also be launched around Diwali. One name which we should not miss is the Mahindra’s mighty machine; XUV 6500, Mahindra XUV 500 has been ruling the SUV segment ever since its launch in India. Launched at an introductory price of Rs 10.80 lakh (e-showroom Delhi), the SUV got a miraculous response from the Indian customers and within few days of the launch the SUV garnered a handful of bookings. However, Mahindra raised the price of the SUV in January and after the union budget 2012-2013 was announced in March, auto cos hiked the car price as the aftermath of the increase in the excise duty. Mahindra too revised the price of its cars to cope up with the raise in the excise duty.

SUV segment is booming in India and Ford is all set to roll out its trump card in the exponentially growing segment. Ford Indian which has been doing well in India on the back of its petite car Ford Figo seeks same response for Ford EcoSport too which could prove to be a game changer for the Ford in India.
