Hispanics represent the majority-minority and the largest workforce community in the United States. However, Hispanics are not advancing quickly enough into the senior management and executive ranks. Corporations realize that the growth in diversity is creating new opportunities for talent development and advancement, yet there is a void in addressing the talent development needs of Hispanics in the workplace. CHL has been created to fill this void. According to Llopis, “one size doesn’t fit all anymore. Diversity groups require professional development tools that integrate their inherent cultural and / or gender roots. This is especially the case for Hispanics and CHL has designed the culturally-tailored curriculum to help advance the talent development of Hispanic professionals in the workplace.”
Diversity represents the changing face of America’s corporations and the future of the executive suite. The need to support the advancement of diversity groups that include Women, Asian, African-Americans, Hispanics and others represents a new normal in the workplace amongst US corporations. “We live in a more diverse and multicultural world than ever,” says Llopis. One key factor to our US economic revival and corporate sustainability will depend upon the development and placement of multicultural leaders in the workplace. For many US corporations, they are being faced with survival and reinvention challenges. Thus, they require more multicultural leaders that inherently understand how to survive and create new opportunities in a landscape defined by change and reinvention.
At CHL, we have defined the inherent cultural characteristics that allow Hispanics leaders to thrive in the workplace and impact the new economy. I applaud IBM for recognizing the importance of addressing the development needs of Hispanic Leaders in the workplace and I look forward to the webcast. This is yet another example of IBM acting upon its mantra of building a smarter planet.”
