Ford Figo bestselling car of Ford

Ford is counted amongst the top manufacturers in India, the auto maker is present in India since 1996, however the American auto cos had to wait for a long time to carve a niche for itself in the Indian car market. Ford was unable to taste success in India with the variety of cars that it offered, few of the Ford cars which failed to impress Indian customers are Ford Ikon which phased out in 2010, apart from this other cars like Ford Ecosport, Ford Mondeo and Ford Fusion also have been phased out.

Ford saw the sales growing after it launched the Ford Figo hatchback in India in the year 2010, since then Ford has been in a complete win win situation. Ford Figo received many awards and accolades in the following year when it was launched. Ford is planning big for the Indian auto market, last year in the beginning of 2011, the company asserted to launch an array of new cars in India, though the company has not revealed as to what would be these products. Last year in July, the company launched the new and improved Ford Fiesta sedan, though the car was priced a little higher but the company cut the price of Fiesta to bring it down in line with its rivals.

Let’s talk a little more about Ford Figo hatchback, which brought the Ford’s dud sales to life. The petite hatchback sports sleek look, though if we compare it to its rivals like Hyundai i20, Chevrolet beat, Maruti Swift then it would look a little suave as compared to their eye catching design. Ford Figo looks like a stripped down version of the Ford Fusion which now has been phased out from Indian car market. Ford offers Figo hatch with two engine options, one is the 1.2 litre DuraTec petrol engine which is made of aluminium thus it helps in reducing the weight of the engine and enhances the fuel economy. The displacement of this engine stands at 1196cc, it has four cylinders and 16 valves. The engine has a capacity to churn out maximum power of 70bhp at 6,250rpm and a peak torque of 102Nm at 4,000 rpm. This was about the petrol engine, while the diesel engine has a capacity of 1.4 liter with a displacement of 1399cc, it has four cylinders, the engine produces a power of 68bhp at 4,000 rpm and 160Nm torque at 2,000 rpm.

Available in eight variants, the Ford Figo price starts at Rs 3,87 lakh (ex-showroom price) and the top end petrol variant is tagged at Rs 4.54 lakh (ex-showroom price). On the other hand, the Ford Figo diesel base model comes with a price tag of Rs 4.86 lakh and the diesel top end variant is priced at Rs 6.03 lakh (both ex-showroom prices).Ford also exports Figo to other markets; India has become the hub for the manufacturing of Figo hatchback. Figo’s arch rival Maruti Swift underwent a complete makeover and now comes with a host of new and innovative features. Also the car has received a massive cosmetic makeover which renders a much contemporary look to it. Maruti Swift’s diesel model has an out stripping demand which could attenuate Ford Figo diesel’s sales.
