The Reading Festival had its beginnings in the National Jazz Festival in the 1960s. In the following years this festival moved from site to site until it finally settled down in Reading in 1971. The Reading festival has the distinction of being the worlds oldest music festival still in existence. This festival has had many musical phases in its existence, from rock to punk to indie and metal. It is usually held on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the bank holiday weekend in August.
