Next gen Tata Safari on its way

Tata Motors the home grown auto maker has a number of SUVs in its stable, one of the most selling and highly popular SUV in its stable is the Tata Safari SUV. Tata Safari is present in the Indian car market for over a decade now and has received many facelifts. The SUV is available only in diesel guise in manual transmission only. Tata Safari price begins at Rs 7.85 lakh and goes up to Rs 13.37 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom price), depending on the variant. The SUV has a muscular look which suits its name, the rugged feeling is given by its sleek design.

Tata Safari is powered with a robust 2.2 litre DICOR engine, which replaced the earlier petrol mill which failed to impress the Indian customers. Tata Safari will be offered in a new and upgraded version, however, the old model will also continue to be sold. This new version of Safari is called Tata Safari Storme SUV, the SUV is expected to be launched by the end of May 2012. Earleir in January at the 11th Auto Expo, Tata Safari Strome SUV was displayed by Tata Motors in New Delhi. Tata Safari Storme is expected to get major makeover and most of the changes will be done on the skin of the SUV. Tata Safari Storme was code-named Tata Merlin and was also seen undergoing test runs across India. Tata Safari Storme is a new and improved version of the old Safari which will flaunt mesmerizing looks and ruggedness. The SUV is likely to be priced at Rs 10 lakh, if the SUV is priced around this range it sure is going to sell like pancakes. The SUV will lock horns directly with the segment bets selling Mahindra XUV 500 SUV which has created hysteria in the SUV segment.

The sturdy 2.2 litre DICOR diesel mill engenders 140 BHP of whopping power at 4000 RPM and a robust torque of 320Nm at 1700-2700 RPM. The engine will be harmonized to a G76 MKII-5 speed manual transmission. The SUV will be proffered in four wheel drive variant too. To cross swords with the Mahindra XUV 500 which comes packed with ample comfort and safety features, Safari Storme will also be housed with a host of innovative safety and convenience features. Among the prominent changes on the exterior front, the SUV will don fresh head lamps and a front grille, reworked front bumpers with fog lamps are some of the changes which the SUV will brag.

With the new gen Tata Safari the company is eyeing at scaling up the standard of Safari to new heights. The SUV will be a seven seater SUV therefore it will offer ample of space. The 2.2 liter DICOR engine will run around 11 kmpl on the city roads while the SUV will deliver a suitable fuel economy of 15kmpl on the highways. Let’s just hope that the SUV is launched soon with ample of innovative comfort, convenience and safety features. Also if the price is tagged around Rs 10 lakh it will be a treat for the Indian customers as there will be another SUV which will have a lot to offer and that too at reasonable price.
