Infertility and Newborn Adoption
Infertility in both men and woman happen for many reasons including illness or trauma to the body. Infertility can be a devastating discovery for a couple trying to conceive. Their dreams of a family can be shattered with this overwhelming analysis. However, infertility is not necessarily the end of the road. There are a wide range of options available for a couple determined to have their own baby. From newborn adoption to advanced medical procedures, the risks and benefits will determine how far a couple is willing to go for their dreams. There are pros and cons to using modern technology to conceive. The biggest being low birth rates and birth defects. However, these modern medical procedures can have had fantastic results for hopeful couples. Each couple needs to come to a decision on their own for what they are willing to risk.
In vitro fertilization is a popular but pricey remedy for infertility for some women. Generally during this process, the female will take fertility drugs to enhance her chances of producing viable eggs. When ready, an egg is extracted from the female and sperm from the male, the egg is fertilized in a laboratory and then the embryo is placed back into the female. The success rate on this procedure is less than 40% and the costs can range around $20,000 for each procedure. The risks to this procedure are multiple births and medication side effects. The costs and success rate of this procedure may or may not make it a realistic option for many couples. There are other options that can be considered such as newborn adoption or donor eggs.
The donor egg procedure is similar to In vitro fertilization with the exception that the egg is donated and then placed in the woman wishing to conceive. The egg donor can be anonymous though a frozen egg bank or she can be a handpicked female that will produce an egg to be extracted. If an egg is to be extracted from a female then both the donor and the recipient will take hormone treatments or drugs to ensure that they are on the same cycle. The egg is then extracted from the donor at the correct time during her cycle. The remaining process is similar to in vitro fertilization. The egg is fertilized in a lab and placed into the recipient female. There is about a 50% success rate if the donor is handpicked and is in the correct age group and about a 30% success rate with a frozen embryo. This procedure will cost approximately $30,000 (price will vary depending on the individual clinic). The mother has the experience of carrying the child. The end result is very similar to a newborn adoption, the child is not the mothers biological genetic makeup but they are there from birth and the child is every bit their own.
Newborn adoption is not a medical procedure. It is an adoption process where the adoptive parents meet the biological mother in the delivery room at the hospital and take the baby home with them. It is an alternative option to consider when conceiving is not something they can pursue. The parent has the option of being along for the pregnancy journey with the biological mother, or meeting their baby for the first time in the hospital. Parents wishing to pursue this option can get advice and direction from local adoption agencies. It is a great way to give a baby a home.
From infertility treatments to newborn adoption, there are many options available to couples who cannot conceive on their own. The best method to choose will depend on the risks a couple is willing to take along with their budget. There are pros and cons to each method. The deciding factor is ultimately up to you.
