Monsterslush sets a good example

On July 20th, 2010 a new EU regulation came into effect (No. 1333/2008). This law lays down that food additives must be labelled and used in a standardised manner within the EU. On the one hand, this rule takes regard of consumer and health protection. On the other hand, commerce in Europe will be simplified.

Particularly, the use of azo compounds in food additives has been regulated. Azo compounds can contribute to behavioural syndromes associated with physiological disturbances, physical factors, and restlessness in children if there is a corresponding disposition involved.

As of the above mentioned day the use of azo compounds must go along with a health warning as follows “Coloring agents can impair children’s behaviour and concentration”. So far, these compounds had been labelled as “E 102, E 104, E 110, E 122, E 124 und E 129”. Dietary adviser Waltraud Fesser, who works with the consumer advisory office in Rhineland-Palatinate, was quoted as saying: “If these coloring agents had been strictly forbidden, children would have been better taken care for.”

In turn, executive people working with MonsterSlush? have had performed some research to develop natural coloring agents. They intended to only use colourful dyes without doing any harm to children.

Accordingly they have started providing only natural dyes at the same time as the law came into effect. Almost all flavours, all of which differ in colour, have no longer anything artificial about them. You can easily recognize them as they wear a green cap. However, an executive person of MonsterSlush? has been quoted as saying:”Our flavours blue raspberry, kiwi/pear, sweet woodruff, cola, and blueberry will keep on containing artificial coloring agents which are absolutely not subject to marking. Unfortunately, we haven’t found any alternative to that. Consistently, these flavours can be recognized as wearing blue caps.”

In a slightly way, colours have changed, but tastes definitively haven’t. As a result, the popularity of “Slush Ice” won’t change at all among German customers. That is the way market leaders do the right thing as to outperform competitors. As mentioned above, many flavours of “Slush Ice” will not contain any artificial components. This information will be distinctly given to the customers by means of shop displays.
