Home Renovation – DIY on a Dime

Is your home uninspiring? Do you have lots of empty, drab spaces? Have you put off – or even given up on – redecorating or home renovation because of the cost of supplies and labor? Guess what? There are loads of easy, cheap improvements that you can make on your own for a very minor investment.

You may not be able to afford major home renovation like kitchen remodeling, but there are plenty of things you can do to breathe life into the kitchen you have. A major bathroom overhaul may be out of the question, but there are likely some simple things you can add for a bright new look. Your budget may be tiny, and you may have little to no experience in home renovation, but just a little effort and creativity can transform your house and infuse it with life, light and inspiration.

Paint a room – or a wall

Many people never bother changing the color of their walls because they’re scared off by the idea of all that work. In reality, a wall – or even a whole room – can be painted quickly and easily. You can use the traditional rollers and brushes, or rent a paint sprayer to take even more work out of the process.

Stop by your local home improvement store and take a look at some swatches for inspiration. Pick out a color or two that makes you smile, and get to work. A fresh burst of color can liven up a whole room.

Rearrange furniture

This might not seem like much of a home renovation “tip”, but there are times when you have a beautiful room filled with beautiful furniture, and all that’s needed is a fresh look. By rearranging the pieces in a room, you can open up the whole space, making it feel spacious, bright, and far more inspiring.

De-clutter

While you’re at it, see if there aren’t some things you can move or get rid of altogether. Too much “stuff” makes a room or home feel cluttered and will leave you feeling claustrophobic. If something is just gathering dust or getting in the way, maybe it’s time to retire it.

Renovate the “old”

New furniture may be out of the question due to budget constraints; so why not take a closer look at the pieces you already have? Old pieces of furniture, particularly good quality hardwood pieces, can be almost endlessly updated to match your current décor or inspiration. In fact, if you have some good quality pieces, they can be tweaked and treated to match your new “look” with each home renovation.

Sand those old pieces down and add a fresh coat of paint or stain. Pick up some funky new knobs or pulls for doors and drawers. Even if you have glass cabinets or doors, you can change the whole appearance by painting the inside of the glass with a paint sprayer.

Along the same lines, you can modernize the look of a room by changing out the plates over electrical switches and outlets for something bright and new. There is a huge variety of options, and you’re sure to find something to fit both your style and your budget.

Keep it fresh

As you can see, it doesn’t take much time, effort or money to do a little home renovation. The key is to keep adding and changing a little at a time, adding life, energy, and inspiration as you go.
