A Second Chance
Guild Wars 2 promises to be yet another exciting MMORPG experience from ArenaNet. Judging by the response of the players who pre-purchased the game following its release in May, the game has a lot of unique new features to offer as it builds up on the Guild Wars saga and takes the story to a whole new level. The proprietary game engine has been heavily modified and now includes real- time 3D environments, enhanced graphics and animations, and the use of the Havok physics system.
Set in the fantasy world of Tyria, the game follows the re-emergence of Destiny’s Edge, a disbanded guild dedicated to fighting the Elder Dragons, a Lovecraftian species that has captured Tyria in the time span of 250 years since the previous game. The player’s task is to reunite the members of this disbanded group and bring them together to face the Elder Dragons as a collective but single identity.
The uniqueness of the genre finds its highlight in the personalized storylines that allow every player to make choices and see a customized storyline evolve. The combat system is dynamic, promoting as it does, the synergy between professions, while also using the environment as a potential threatening weapon. The interactive feature is brilliantly put to use as the player’s choices have a real effect on the world around him, be it with regard to the centaurs or the villagers.
It’s a gamers delight with character customization involving eight powerful profession and five enigmatic races to choose from. The innovative combat features amazing skills and improvisational tactics. And if that’s not enough to whet the most avid gamer’s appetite, there’s fierce and epic inter-world warfare as well as player-versus-player arenas so that one can test one’s skills against other players, with exclusive rewards to showcase their achievements.
A dynamic event system replaces allows players to approach the game quests in different ways as part of a persistent world. There’s also a true 3D environment which will allow characters to jump over obstacles as well as swim and dive underwater. The incredible attention to detail also makes for a stunning visual treat.
