One of the most challenging aspects of being a special education teacher is setting individual education plans with goals and objectives customized for each student. This can certainly take up a great deal of time in each teacher’s already very busy and demanding schedule, but it can also be stressful on the teacher, too. These plans help to set the tone for the year for each child by providing them with unique and customized goals to work toward. Clearly, finding examples of IEP goals can help to get you started on this task, but how can you find them?
Books and Guides
There are several great books and guides written specifically for special education teachers such as yourself that have great examples of IEP goals in them. These books generally require you to make an investment, and this either comes out of your classroom budget or out of your own personal budget.

Some sites are subscription sites, and these sites are filled with customized examples designed to help you create goals and objectives for students with a variety of different issues. Most of these subscriptions are highly affordable, and many teachers find these more helpful than using books as reference guides.
Customizing the Examples
In some cases, you will find that the examples of IEP goals in books or available through online subscriptions are perfectly suited for your students as is. Many times, however, you can use these examples as a great starting point, and often you will just need to revise the wording here and there to better suit the individual child. In most cases, these examples provide you with a great way to save time in writing your goals, and they also help to ensure that you don’t overlook important deficiencies that you and the child can work toward improving over the course of the year, too.
