Hair Replacement: Disposable Hair Systems

In this article I give an insight about the so- called disposable hair systems and how practical they really are.

In the industry they are known as disposable hair systems. They are designed to wear once and then discard. Some wearers claim to wear one for 8 weeks at a time, others for just 4 weeks.

The problem with these types of systems is that because they are designed to throw away the hair quality and knotting process is quite frankly awful. In the manufacturing process, each hair stand is injected rather than knotted into a very thin gas permeable membrane. Because of this injection method they shed a lot of hair over their 4-8 week life span period. So they look great for the first 2 weeks and then depending on the area in which the hair has fallen – a huge effort is needed to conceal the balding patches until you get a new one on your head.  Some wearers with use comb over techniques, others will use concealing products such as Nanogen fibers or Mane  spray.

Another factor to consider when opting for these hair systems is the cost. You will need about 10 per year and at a cost of around £400 each this can be completely out of most people’s budget. You can achieve the same undetectable appearance through wearing a full lace base. They are just as thin yet reusable and, maintained correctly, a full lace should last 6 months or so. Therefore most people only need two per year.

The Hair quality in these throw away systems is also one of the most obvious problems. Because of their disposable nature, manufacturers use very cheap Indian/Asian hair which when first cut and styled requires a settling down period because it can appear very frizzy and bouncy. After a week or two it settles down but by this time the system has shed some hair and is almost at the end of its life anyway. So it’s difficult to enjoy a perfect all year round look. Many wearers also experience a reddish colour in the hair. This is because Asian or Indian hair naturally contains red tones. Have you ever seen an Asian girl with her long bouncy black curls catching the sunlight revealing these reddish shades? Indian/Asian hair is heavily processed and stripped but it’s almost impossible for the manufacturer to completely eradicate the red tones in the hair. With European hair these reddish tones don’t exist but because Euro hair is more expensive, manufacturers don’t use it in disposable systems.
