How Wasted Time is Your Number One Fitness Enemy

One of the most misunderstood concepts in fitness is time.

For instance, I’ll bet that when I mentioned time and fitness together, two things came to mind?  One is that you were thinking I was going to tell you that you have to put in a lot of time to get return on your workouts.

The other thing you might have anticipated is that I was going to tell you that you have to “make” time in order to get fit.

Actually, I wanted to approach the issue of time from a different angle. I want to incorporate the Power Half Hour 30 minute workout concept into the discussion and hopefully encourage you to look at time and getting a great effective workout in a little differently.

One of your biggest enemies in working out and achieving results is your mental perception of the importance of time. By this I mean, you are trained to believe that extra time working out equates to better results.

Actually when examining the Power Half Hour approach and the 30 minute workout concept it employs, you will see that too much time is the enemy.

First, if you know you will have to spend a lot of time on that day’s workout, you will be very likely to procrastinate or not do it all together. The mental aspect of long workouts actually hinder your workout progress more than anything.

With Power Half Hour it is a 30 minute workout, no more, no less. There is consistency there and there is also great efficiency. (we’ll explore the crucial nature of efficiency coming right up)

You know that a big part of the Power Half Hour program is getting great results. This is what trainer Tony Horton did with P90X and the pictures from successful Power Half Hour graduates are no less impressive.

If you know that this means high intensity and great focus, then you’ll be excited knowing that every move matters. You’ll also know that the workout will grab you right away.

The result is a 30 minute workout will seem much shorter.

You can be introduced to the idea that a workout can be fun and interesting and get great results. Once you do experience that, you won’t settle for the old conventional way of doing things.

Where you work out for a long time at a moderate pace without well-thought out structure.  This is where time can become your biggest enemy to fitness.

Wasted movements that don’t get results mean wasted time. The better route is to shorten the time and lift the intensity.
