CBSE school-based exam will have to apply for junior college admissions offline
Class 10 students who have appeared for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school-based exam will have to apply for junior college admissions offline. Online admissions to junior college (Class 11) will begin after the Class 10 state board results are announced on June 13. Once the online process is completed, remaining seats will be filled through offline admissions.
“We had asked students who wanted to opt for junior college to stick to the boards,” said Vineet Joshi, chairman, CBSE.
This is the second year that board exams were made optional for CBSE Class 10 students. Last year, the government had initially denied admissions to students who had taken the school-based exams, but later said they could apply offline for seats left vacant after the online procedure.
The state education department had sent a letter to CBSE officials last month informing them about the decision. “This year, we had informed the board in advance that students will have to follow the offline procedure,” said an education department official.
Principals said that students were more cautious this year and chose the boards. “Students fear they would not get admissions to a junior college, so chose the board exam,” said Cherian George, principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya.
