Activities to do with Au Pairs in summers
Know from Au Pair care area director of Aupare Care about the activities in which you can involve your Au pairs and how to make them feel part of family.
This Sunday, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for a meal while travelling down the highway. We don’t often stop at such a place because of the crowds and fuss, but it was a fun experience for us all.
As my family waited to be seated, we perused the uniquely American gift store, rocked in the rockers on the porch, and my girls played a game of checkers. It started me thinking of all things American and how unique we are.
The summer season is upon us and many of our host families are receiving new au pairs in the next few months. With the arrival of the new au pairs, host families see America through a fresh set of eyes. I have host families that say they enjoy the au pair experience because it encourages them to do things they wouldn’t normally do in order to help their au pair experience life in the United States. An au pair can be the catalyst to trying “touristy” or new things in your area.
As an area director, I plan an event every month and try to make it an American experience for the au pairs. I, also, get to experience my area in ways I would not if it weren’t for my au pair connection. Since it is summer, I thought I would pass on some of the fun American events that area directors around the country do with their au pairs from Aupare Care. Perhaps host families might get some ideas for family and au pair outings to do this summer.
1. Go to a pro or semi-pro baseball game.
2. Do something on the water in your area like tubing, wave-runners, kayaking, or paddle boarding.
3. Paint your own pottery at a do-it-yourself studio.
4. Hold international pot luck–invite several au pairs and have them bring a dish from their country.
5. Listen to some outside music.
6. Go to an outdoor community theatre production.
7. Bike along a boardwalk, trail, or scenic route.
It is very important to involve au pairs in daily activities especially in the beginning so that they can understand and learn things. This will help them to adjust according to you for rest part of the year. Moreover, it will create a special both between host family and au pair.
