Steps after above ground pools installation

So you have just installed above ground pools and wondering what you need to do next. You may not be aware of the face that above ground pools require testing before they can be used. You need to make sure that water not only looks clear but is also safe. You might need to add some chemicals for disinfecting it and it might need some other conditioning.

Running filtration system

Above ground pools come with a pump as well as filter. Both of these are very important to maintain water quality in your pool. The pump does the task of water circulation in above ground pools and filter screens out unwanted contaminants and solids. Along with it, filter also provides chemical treatment too. It is important to keep filter as well as pump in optimum condition in above ground pools. There is no standard time for which you should leave both of these things running as running times depends largely on size of your pools and water it is holding up. Generally, the time for first run is around four hours.

Testing the water

Before using above ground pools, it is important to test water before your kids or your family is ready to get a splash in it. Make sure that the chlorine reading should not be more than 3 PPM and pH of water should be from 7.2 to 7.6. If there is too much chlorine in water or pH level is too high, you might have skin irritation or burning sensation in eyes. Also make sure that you test the water at regular intervals as it is very important to keep water clean and safe. When the test shows readings which are not normal, don’t get panic, you need to adjust chemistry of water accordingly.

Though the range of pH suggest above for above ground pools is slightly alkaline but it is most suitable pH range. Anything above than 7.6 is considered as too alkaline for humans and anything below 7 is considered as acidic. Never keep your pH level above 7.6 as chlorine effectiveness decreases as pH level increases. A high pH will cause burning sensation as well as skin irritation whereas low pH would produce bad smells as low pH would favour bacterial growth. You can adjust the level of pH either by adding sodium carbonate in acidic water and muriatic acid in alkaline water. But be careful not to put all the material at once and add gradually.
