20th Jagannath Rath Yatra at Mumbai Sakinaka
First-largest procession in the state. Rathyatra of Lord Jagannath performs at Sakinaka (Mumbai) every year during the months of June. The chariots are made a new every year in accordance with strict and ancient specifications and are pulled by several thousand devotees at a time.
Bollywood actress Devshi Khanduri (Heroin of Chargesheet) went Jagannath Temple to seek the blessing of God. She said, “It was truly a spiritually satisfying experience the peace I got while paying homage to Jagannath.”
Rath yatra 2012, the much famous Chariot Festival of Lord Jagannath, is held annually in Puri Odissa. On the first day, the Idols of trio are carried through the street in three huge thundering chariots to Mausi Maa Temple, which have made this event internationally known. Nine days later, the idols take Departure from Mausi Maa Temple towards the Original Temple in the opposite direction.This is called Bahuda Yatra.
President of Jagannath Mandir Ramesh Chandramani said, “It was a great feeling for us that thousand of devotees pay homage to Lord Jagannath. The initiative of performing rath yatra was taken by textile mill workers and now we are taking forward this festival”.
About 50 Thousand devotees joined the Rath Yatra. Mumbai Police are making an elaborate security arrangement for the Rath Yatra. Atleast 150 police constables including officers will be deployed along With the Rath Yatra Route.
