Preventing Serious Disease – Before it’s Too Late
The world we are living in is moving at a very fast pace. Our way of life is changing. We strive hard to adhere to our busy work schedules, but ignore the equally important schedule as regards our food, exercise, hygiene and rest.
Often, people indulge in eating habits that are detrimental to their health. They prefer fast food over a healthy food spread. Some get very little hours of sleep, while some ignore that little toothache which could be an indication of an unhealthy dental hygiene.
According to a report supported by five different studies in the American Journal of Medicine, there are certain healthy habits that can prevent disease.
Eating good food has been known to prevent some form of cancer. From 1990 to 2011, scientists from Xian China conducted about 41 case studies related to cancer. They found that consumption of fresh fish on a regular basis helped in the reduction of colorectal cancer by at least twelve percent and rectal cancer, by twenty one percent. Thus preventative measures, in the form of fresh fish are highly recommended.
‘Cigarette smoking is injurious to health’. How many people read the same on the cigarette carton and yet ignore the warning? Then there are some who try to break the habit. These require pats on their backs, because it is never easy; it certainly requires courage and nerves. But their lives can be saved by using aids like acupuncture and hypnotherapy to stop smoking habits and the ability to quit smoking is greatly increased, as per the medical experts at Montreal’s McGill University.
Consumption of fish from reputable suppliers on a regular basis greatly helps to prevent heart problems, mental disorders and prostrate cancer as per a research conducted by Harvard Medical School. The school’s officials consider fish to be an incredibly potent health food although some fish has been known to be toxic.
Overall good health is dependant on essential vitamins and minerals. As we grow older, deficiencies in the same create health problems. Some people are unable to absorb/ get essential vitamins and minerals through their daily food and depend on naturalsupplements prescribed by certified nutritionists, who gauge which vitamins and minerals are deficient in the body. It is to be noted that vitamin K and selenium deficiency may spark off diseases related to age and heart, it can even sometimes lead to cancer or affect the immune system or brain- functioning.
‘Good oral hygiene is one of the stepping stones to a healthy body’. Many studies in North America have supported this theory. Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan conducted an examination on about ten thousand patients that received regular tooth scaling and compared them with another ten thousand that did not receive the same. Over a period of seven years, it was discovered that the former class who did receive tooth scaling were less susceptible to stroke and heart disease than the other class.
The Department of Health and Human Services has prescribed exercise to be a good prevention for many chronic diseases. Regularly exercising and performing outdoor activities helps in minimizing the risks associated with obesity, like heart attacks, high blood pressure and other diseases and disorders.
Preventive measures, living healthily requires devoted time and strict schedules and it could be a while before adhering to them becomes a habit. But then it would be a habit one would covet and set an example for others to envy and follow.
‘A habit that would save one’s life’.
