Maruti Ertiga MPV gets 12,000 bookings in Indonesia
Maruti Suzuki India’s first vehicle in the MPV segment, Maruti Ertiga has turned out to be a huge success for the car maker not only in the domestic market but also in the Indonesian market. The company started exports of the Ertiga MPV recently and as per reports the company has garnered a whopping 12, 000 bookings for the Maruti Ertiga compact MPV within few weeks of the launch.
Maruti Suzuki India is presently exporting Ertiga MPV as a completely knocked down unit to the Indonesian market. The company is exporting only the petrol version of the hatchback. The MPV is being assembled in Indonesia and it is being sold at a price of Rs 143 million IDR (Indonesia Rupiah which is around Rs 8.50 lakh) for the base spec GA model. On the other hand the GL and GX variants cost 153 million IDR and 165 million IDR respectively, which in Indian currency would cost around Rs 9 lakh and Rs 9.8 lakh. The booking amount for Maruti Ertiga is close to 5 million IDR that if converted in Indian currency would cost around Rs 30,000.
Reports suggest that among all the three variants being offered in Indonesia, customers are opting the top end version of the Maruti Ertiga MPV, that is the Maruti Ertiga GX variant. The next trim that is being preferred by the customers in Indonesia is the mid variant that is Maruti Ertiga GL version, while the base version that is Maruti Ertiga GA is the last priority of the customers. Due the fluctuating fuel prices, specially the jump in petrol prices in India in last few months, people in India rae not preferring petrol powered cars.
It is hence possible that the Indonesian market may get priority for the petrol variants over the local market. In India Ertiga’s petrol variant is less popular as compared to its diesel version. Therefore, Indonesian market may get all the priority as far as the petrol model is concerned.
In India also Maruti Ertiga has got good response from the customers. Maruti Ertiga price in India starts at Rs 5.89 lakhs (ex-showroom price). Other MPVs in India like Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo have been present in India for quite some time. Mahindra Xylo was launched in India three years ago while Innova was launched years back. In the beginning of 2012 both the companies launched new versions of their respective MPVs with less price tag than before. All the MPVs are doing good and are selling in good numbers every month. Though, auto aficionados had the view that Ertiga could pose a threat to segment bestseller Toyota Innova. Ertiga is priced way too less than Innova therefore it does have an upper hand over Innova as far as price is concerned. However, in terms of space and features Innova still leads, Mahindra Xylo too is proffered with good features and has ample space; therefore Ertiga is proved to be less spacious than these two best selling MPVs. Ertiga has been launched at Introductory price which could be changed soon. Let’s see when that happens and how that affects the sales of the MPV.
