A New Ely Minnesota Restaurant
The recently purchased building that housed the Northern Ground Restaurant for several years at 117 N Central Avenue is home to Ely’s newest restaurant, A Taste of Ely. Prior to being a restaurant the building housed a different type of food vender, Klun’s Market. Klun’s Market was an old fashioned family owned grocery store that took phone orders, ran charge accounts and made deliveries. It was a place where people shopped, shared stories and greeted neighbors and friends, new and old. The resident butcher, Tony Klun was not afraid to offer advice, give cooking tips and share a yarn or two. Tony was also the grandfather of the current owner so the building has come full circle.
That is the inspiration behind A Taste of Ely. A Taste of Ely is a place where people can go to eat great home-style cooking, drink coffee, relax, share stories and greet their neighbors. A place to gather, meet new friends, showcase the rich history of Ely and let visitors know what a great place Ely is.
The many changes to the restaurant include an updated kitchen area and new décor featuring stories and photos about Ely, its history and some of its most colorful citizens, provide a welcoming atmosphere in which to enjoy great food prepared and served by cheerful, accommodating staff. Join us for coffee, cookie and cribbage or bring your lap top and check your email while enjoying a cappuccino and a blueberry scone. The newly expanded deck area features new tables and allows customers the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of Ely. The deck area is a bee hive of activity as A Taste of Ely hosts outdoor BBQ’s and live music from polkas to rock throughout the summer and early fall. People can relax after work and enjoy the deck with the daily happy hour specials. We welcome families, with several outdoor games that are available, the children and parents can both enjoy their time on the deck.
A Taste of Ely has featured ethnic and early bird specials along with a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that feature old favorites, fresh salads and sandwiches, soups and desserts. A variety of beverages are also being served, from creamy smoothies, malts and specialty coffees to your favorite beer and wine. A full take out menu and catering menu make A Taste of Ely a full service restaurant.
