Do you think Wireless Network Installation is a Rocket Science? Well it is not!

Whole world is using wireless technologies and if you are still wired, then please do not get offended, you are weird. It is time to get rid of multi-color tangled wires before they label you as ‘out of world geek’. The biggest challenge that might be pulling you back here could be, wireless network installation ; trust us, the installation is so easy that even your little Johnny can do it. Let us now have a go with this installation.

Are you ready with the peripherals?

Unlike Local Area Networking, we do not need a mesh of cat5 cables, twister pair cables, shielded twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, network interface cards or workstations. This wireless networking follows a complete different topology and its hardware requirements are somewhat different from the local area networking. As we mentioned above about different types of wireless networking systems, their installation requirement and procedure also varies. Here, we will be discussing, WI-FI installation procedure for a home:
An operating system that supports wide area network such as Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7 or XP SP3 or Linux (Ubuntu).
Second thing you need for sure is, a DSL or broadband Internet connection billed on your name and a wireless modem router and an wireless network compatible computer system

Wireless Network Installation Guide:

  • Grab a router as per your network sharing requirements, the more PCs you want to cover the more routers you will have to deploy. Do remember current standards in Wi-Fi technology is Wireless G and which is rated somewhere at the 54 mega byte per second speed with a radius of 75’.
  • Un-box the router, check the box for an Ethernet cable, USB cable, Installation Menu, Installation CD and a power adapter.
  • Plug in all wires as detailed in the installation menu booklet (check the box)
  • Run the setup CD that you got with the router (driver CD: check box) and install the network configuration software
  • After a certain point, it will ask you to reboot your system (software installation does not completes here).
  • Now you need to set up the router. As it is first time of your network setup, you need to plug in the other side of Ethernet cable (of which one side is already plugged in the modem router) in the Ethernet port of your system. You system will automatically deduct the router and once done, complete the remaining installation.
  • You will be asked to enter your user name and password; enter the information (check box), once done complete other settings.
