Ideas for Party Games for Teenagers
If you are throwing a party for a teenager then this can be a very daunting and possibly thankless task. When they were several years younger, party activities were forthcoming and anything you suggested seemed like a good idea. Kid party games can be everything from an egg and spoon race to pass the parcel and you’d be surprised how much fun children can have even with a cardboard box.
Teenagers however are not quite the same in this respect. On the contrary, teenagers are very hard to please, and there is a good chance that whatever you suggest will appear ‘uncool’ or ‘lame’. This is partly because teenagers are much more self conscious than children or even adults, making party activities that make them look stupid less of a good idea. At the same time teenage party ideas need to be a little more intellectually stimulating and this means coming up with something more challenging than musical chairs. Here we will look at some teenage party games that are still likely to be a hit.
Fancy Dress: Fancy dress is still a good idea for a party as it is open to interpretation. First of all, if you have a fancy dress theme it means people can dress up and look stupid if they want to, but the ‘cooler’ kids can instead make it an opportunity to make themselves look good or to shirk the idea altogether. This is also great for coming up with activities as you can base them on the theme of the fancy dress. Great ideas are ‘film characters’, ‘superheroes’, ‘Disney’, ’90s’, ‘pop stars and bands’, ‘sci fi’, or ‘stone age’.
Murder Mystery: Depending on the group of teenagers you have and how big the party is, murder mystery is a great way to get people talking and to let themselves go. It involves acting, but at the same time it’s a good way to get people to lose their inhibitions a bit and creates a fun challenge that can run through the party.
Theme Park: Going to a theme park is a great way to keep most teenagers happy, and the mix of rides means that it has something for most people. The only difficulty is keeping everyone together.
DJ: Hiring a DJ is certainly a good idea for those who want to be ‘cool’ at their parties, and at the same time it’s a great way to get everyone dancing.
Computer Games: Computer games are often accused of being an unsociable activity, but they can actually provide great teenage party games. The best teenage computer game party activities are those that use motion sensors – so look into getting a Wii or a Kinect and this can also be a great birthday present.
Truth or Dare: As long as it’s supervised and things don’t get too edgy, a game of truth or dare can be fun and tense. Spin the bottle is also a fun game that can bring some laughs, but again it needs to be supervised.
