Nissan might launch cut price version of Micra petrol
Japanese car maker Nissan’s first mass segment product, Nissan Micra which was launched in India couple of years ago could not live up to the company’s expectations. Nissan Micra is still struggling to carve a niche for itself in the Indian car market. The reason behind this low demand seems to be the high pricing for the petrol version along with low dealership network of Nissan in India. Nissan thought that things would change with the launch of Nissan Micra diesel. However, things couldn’t shape as Nissan had anticipated, again pricing seemed to be the culprit. The diesel Nissan Micra hatchback was priced even higher than the petrol version. Both petrol and diesel versions being out of customers reach played the spoilt sport and could not impress the customers.
The hatchback is still struggling to rope in good monthly sales, however as far as exports of the hatchback are concerned, it is doing better than domestic market.
The lower demand for Nissan hatchback is being fulfilled by the high number of units the company exports to the overseas market every month. In order to gain market share in the Indian car market, Nissan Motors India is now toying with the idea of launching a cut price variant of Nissan Micra hatchback. The cut price version will rolled in the petrol version and it is expected to hit the Indian roads by the year 2013.
Rumors have been doing the rounds in the Indian car market regarding the cut price variant of Nissan Micra in petrol version and this project has been codenamed, G02A. The company plans to extract some features from the petrol version of the hatchback which will help in bringing down the cost of the car substantially. The cut price version of Nissan Micra petrol will cross swords with Hyundai i10 hatchback.
Therefore you get a chance to own a spacious hatchback at a price at which Hyundai i10 is available. Though, we will have to wait to see if the Indian customers are willing to splurge Rs 3.75 lakhs on a Nissan Micra hatchback, knowing that Hyundai i10 comes at almost same price. Also Hyundai i10 has roomier interiors, a more powerful petrol engine and a better network which counts a lot.
India has seen out stripping demand for diesel cars in India and buyers prefer to buy small cars with diesel powertrain, in such a scenario the company is taking a move to slice down Nissan Micra price for the petrol variant. The company should rather think to slice down price of the diesel version of Nissan Micra instead of petrol version. But let us see what the company has in mind whether it will be able to materialize or not. On the other hand, company’s sedan Nissan Sunny is doing extremely good in the Indian car market. Renault which shares manufacturing facility with Nissan along with sharing platform of Nissan’s popular hatchback, Micra is all set to launch a compact sedan basd on Sunny. This sedan will be christened, Renault Scala in India and is expected to be launched in India by the month of September.
