Important information about Zyban
You should avoid taking Zyban if you are taking other medications such as phenelzine (Nardil), furazolidone (Furoxone), rasagiline (Azilect),isocarboxazid (Marplan) or selegiline (Eldepryl). Avoid Zyban if you are suffering or have a history of health conditions such as seizures. This can complicate matters and always consult a doctor before taking this drug.
Some people, who take this drug, are known to have suicidal thoughts, especially those who are under 24 years of age. You should visit the doctor regularly in the first 12 weeks of treatment when you start taking this drug.
If you notice any type of unusual behavior, contact your doctor. If you notice a change in your behavior such as hostile, restless, hyperactive, more depressed, irritable, agitated and anxious mood swings, you should contact your doctor.
Before taking Zyban
Avoid taking this drug if you are suffering from epileptic seizures, anorexia, bulimia, or if you are using another form of bupropion.
This medication may cause certain unpleasant effects and if anything starts bothering you, tell your doctor about it. Your dosage needs to be adjusted if you are suffering from the following health conditions:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- History of heart attack
- Kidney diseases
- Liver problems
- Bipolar disorder
You may experience suicidal thoughts when you first take this medication, especially if you are under the age of 24. You can tell your doctor if the symptoms worsen and you are not able to cope. In certain cases, your dose needs to be changed. Your family and friends should also report to the doctor if they notice changes in your mood.
Though this drug is not known to harm the unborn baby, it is better if you consult your doctor before taking it if you are pregnant of planning to get pregnant. Also, talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding as this drug passes in to breast milk and this could be harmful to the nursing baby.
How to take it?
Take Zyban exactly as the doctor prescribes it to you. Do not take it in larger or smaller quantities or for longer than prescribed. This drug can be taken with or without food. Continue smoking for a week after you start taking this drug. Set a quit date and stop smoking during the second week after this drug is being administered.
