Many times, it happens that au pair gels well with the family and au pair host family also wants to seek their extension as every au pair is entitled to get an extension once during their stay. Many Au pairs from Aupair Care have no idea about availability dates and how can utilize their extension period in a best possible manner. Many times, it has happened that due to lack of knowledge about au pair extension dates, many deserving cases are deprived of getting extension or lose substantial period of their stay. Last week, an au pair in our cluster had some questions about her extension. “I have found the perfect family to extend with, but they can’t start my new year until August 3rd. My program year with my host family ends on July 18th, can I just take some time off and then start with them on the 3rd?” Questions like this are common, and I think the answer is helpful for both au pairs and host families as they can plan and manage their extension without much hassles.
Unfortunately, for new (overseas) au pairs and extending, as well as reaching au pairs, the availability dates are set. Host families can’t ask an au pair to leave early to make a new match happen, nor can they be off program for even one day in between matches (this is a Department of State rule). Therefore, a new match must begin by the last date available. The procedure is like this and has to be followed. Thus, it is important to get started with the things in case you are expecting or seeking extension with your au pair host family so that you can stay with them for maximum allowed period.
While she was disappointed, this au pair understood the rules and had to find a new family to match with. With new families searching for an au pair every day, it was just a couple of days before she found another family – “even more perfect”, she reported! – with whom to do her 6 month extension. Thus, when you have governed by rules of Aupair Care, it is important that you should stick to them and do the things which are under the law.
