Clash of the titans, New Hyundai i20 vs. Volkswagen Polo
Hyundai India recently rolled out its new fluidic machine called new Hyundai i20, which has brilliant looks. Hyundai completely changed the old i20 and provided some alluring cues to its fluidic structure, which is pretty successful in attracting consumers towards it. On the other hand, the major competition of Hyundai i20 is German car maker’s hatchback, Volkswagen Polo. VW Polo has smart and sleek appearance along with ample of comfort features and certainly high performing motor. Starting with under the hood set-up, the New Hyundai i20 is offered in both diesel and petrol variants. On the other hand, Volkswagen Polo is available in both diesel and petrol engine options. The 1.2 litre of petrol variant of the car manages to churn out 75 PS of maximum power at 5400 rpm with 110 Nm of peak torque at 3750 rpm. The diesel variant of VW Polo features 1.2 litre of engine generating 75 PS of power at the rate of 4200 rpm with 180 Nm of torque at the rate of 2000 rpm. The 1.6 litre of petrol variant is also available, which speed up from 0 to 100 km per hour mark in just 11.1 seconds and has a top speed of 164 km per hour.
Coming to the mileage delivered by both these hatchback, they don’t disappoint at all. The Hyundai i20 automatic variant delivers a decent mileage of 11 to 15 km per litre, whereas the 1.4 litre Kappa engine manages to deliver 15 to 17 km per litre of fuel economy. The diesel variant of new Hyundai i20 hatchback delivers an awesome fuel economy of 18 to 23 km per litre. On the other hand, the German car maker’s offering Volkswagen Polo 1.2 litre petrol proudly delivers a mileage figure of 13 to 17 km per litre and the 1.2 litre diesel engine comfortably delivers a mileage of 16 to 20 km per litre.
Moving from the technical features, let’s talk about the ride and handling of both cars. New Hyundai i20 provides complete comfort to the driver while driving. The power steering reacts quite well even when there is high traffic. The noise, vibration and harshness have also been reduced substantially as compared to the previous model. The comfort level here is intensified with features like rear parking camera, smart key with push button start, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, AC with automatic temperature control, 2 DIN CD player, and Bluetooth connectivity. On the contrary, Volkswagen Polo doesn’t let down the consumers. The power steering reacts quickly and is not at all heavy. As far as the NVH is concerned, VW Polo is decent on this space. The comfort of Polo is further boosted by features like air conditioning, power windows, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, child door locks, ABS, dual airbags, side impact beams, and height adjustment driver seat.
Look wise, the new Hyundai i20 outperforms Volkswagen Polo. The new Hyundai i20 has taken some cues from Hyundai i3 and comes with stylized bumpers, fluidic and sleek headlamps and attractive tail lights. The sharp and edgy lines on the exteriors of Hyundai i20 makes it quite sophisticated and elegant. The body colored ORVMs, shiny front grille, sporty roof spoiler and 15 inches of alloy wheels add on more charm to the hatchback. Conversely, Volkswagen Polo has tow-box kind of design, which has been blessed with a very strappy metal sheet. The front grille with stylish bumper and nicely shaped headlights provide a smart appearance to the car. The rear end of Polo sports nice bumper, edgier tail lamps, rear washer and wiper, chrome tipped exhaust and rear spoiler.
The interiors of these hatchbacks! Interiors are a very integral part of any car and both Volkswagen and Hyundai have taken care of the department very well. As soon as one step inside the new Hyundai i20 cabin, the illuminated blue LED welcomes and the smartly done seating arrangement make sure that the passengers get ample of legroom and headroom space. The interiors are blessed with chrome and leather finishes on the gear knob, luggage hook, clutch footrest and coat hook. Similarly, Volkswagen Polo interiors are utterly sophisticated and elegant, which would certainly leave you awestruck. The enhanced legroom and headroom spaces in Polo are impressive, which ample of luggage storage space takes away the cake here.
Finally, after all the features, engines and looks, all comes down to one thing, which is the price. Volkswagen Polo price tag ranges from Rs 4,77,636 to Rs 7,52,772, whereas new Hyundai i20 price tag ranges from Rs 4,73,400 to Rs 7, 67,405, which makes it slightly costlier than Polo.
