Nainital – Hotels In The Lake City
Nainital, one of the beautiful hill towns favoured by the ruling British during the Raj, with its famous educational institutions, is in fact an ancient city and one of the 64 Sakthi Peeths, sacred to Sakthi worshippers.
Located at more than 2000 meters above sea level, the city gets is name from the temple dedicated to the Goddess Sakthi, called the Naina Devi temple and is one of the most important tourist attractions.
Another major tourist draw is the world famous Corbett National Park, one of the first tiger reserves in the world, where the tiger preservation movement was pioneered by Jim Corbett.
The pear shaped Nainital Lake is beautiful and serene and is considered to be as holy as the Manasarovar by Hindus. At about 270 kilometers from New Delhi, Nainital can be easily reached from Delhi by car in about 4-5 hours, depending on the weather and road conditions.
The nearest airport to Nainital is in Pantnagar. If you want to fly from Delhi, you have to hire a taxi from Pantnagar to Nainital.
If you want to travel from Nainital to Delhi by train, you have to travel to Kathgodam as there is no direct rail service to the hill station. From Kathgodam, you can hire a taxi to reach Nainital.
There are buses running between Nainital and Delhi that range from ordinary coaches to air-conditioned Volvo buses for a journey of some 5-6 hours.
